For all the creative people who read this blog, for all the students who want to know how to get better: we can all learn something with these words. I guess patience and hard work are indeed underestimated but a “must-have” that we forget while living in a world where everything seems to happen quite fast.

Syntax highlighting on Tumblr… yay…

I <3 my Dropbox. Yeah, even with the recent security … incident.
So, you get 250mb free space for every person you successfully refer to them, for a maximum of 8GB extra space. But how do you get 32 people to sign up using your referral link?
… Yep! You create a Google Adwords campaign and advertise your referral link on Google, which is actually free with one of the $100 coupons that Google still throws around.
(And just in case someone stumbles over this and has no Dropbox yet, you can get 250mb extra right during sign up by using a referral link. Preferably mine.)

The first high-altitude “space suits” were less technocratic achievements than feats of adaptation. In 1934 such a hand-formed “tire shaped like a man” brought aviator Wiley Post to the limits of the stratosphere.

Can you say “Bioshock”?

And so, I’m learning Ruby.

A few years after Perl and Python, I’ve now decided to look into Ruby, mainly because I want to play around with Rails (on Heroku).

I want to get some Ruby basics in before I dive into Rails, so I’ve shopped around for books and found Beginning Ruby: From Novice to Professional. I would have instinctively reached for an O’Reilly book, but their book for beginners seems to be outdated now (It’s from 2007), and their The Ruby Programming Language is probably better suited as a second book.

So, if everything goes well, I’ll definitely have something to blog about :) Reblogging random stuff on Tumblr got on my nerves over time, so I guess this blog will serve as a progress journal on my Ruby learning from now on. And maybe it can be of value to people in a similar position one day.

IT’S AUGUST TOMORROW AND I THOUGHT I WOULD SUM UP MY FEELINGS WITH GIFS.

mimisaurus:

When I realized that it was August tomorrow, I was like: .

And then I was like .

And then I thought that now I can get some .

But then I remembered that I have two more weeks to wait.

AND I HAVE A PHILOSOPHY EXAM OM MONDAY STILL SO .

I CAN’T WAIT ANYMOAR, ARGHHHHH .

I know that feeling! Except for me it’s databases aaaahhhh.

“I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.”
Bene Gesserit, Litany against fear (from Frank Herbert’s “Dune”). Not easy to do in practice, but worth repeating.
